Book and Wildflower themed wedding at Hinwick House, Northamptonshire
Back in April I had the absolute joy of photographing Katie and James’ wedding day- a day that can best be described as a whimsical, beautifully styled wedding that had fun at it’s heart. The setting, Hinwick house, a grade 1 listed stately home which was modelled after Buckingham Palace, but don’t let that fool you- this wedding was anything but pretentious. Katie and James created a vibe which perfectly reflected their love of bringing people together, fun and party!
Hinwick House is near Wellingborough in Northamptonshire and has plenty of space to allow you comfort and options on your wedding day. The couple opted to use the drawing room and library for their drinks reception, a light and airy marquee for thier wedding breakfast, the long bar for thier evening cocktails and the great hall for dancing in the evening. The effect was that the day didn’t feel stale, with plenty of space for people to mingle and have a change of scenery when parts of the day come to an end which helped everything run smoothly.
Close the Hinwick House is Little Staughton where the couple chose a church close to their hearts to have their ceremony. The ceremony was conducted by the loveliest Vicer I’ve met and the two of them couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear. After the ceremony the couple greeted guests as they left the church and it was super cute watching as everyone congratulated the newly weds.
Do you remember back in April when we had all that mental wind… well I always will, we almost lost the veil twice and had to shift the location of the group shots to provide a bit more cover but Hinwick house has some beautiful grounds and a clock tower! so there were lots of options for the couples portraits.
I’m obsessed with the styling choice for this wedding- Wildflowers and books! with gentle nods to the couples joint passion of travelling- the couple had made centre pieces out of books, using photos and names of their favourite destinations as table markers. The mother of the bride also pulled an absolute blinder by making these huge (taller than me!) free standing flowers that when I walked in the room genuinely made me feel like I’d fallen down the rabbit hole!
For the Wedding breakfast the couple decided to add to what can be a dull part of the day by assigning each table a captain and setting them a list of challenges which had to be captured on a disposable camera - which their guests were happy to take on the challenge! Always trust a wedding by how much the guests get stuck in. The food cooked by private chef Gourmand Pierre was gorgeous- who said wedding food had to taste bad?!
What I loved most about this wedding is how much everyone was up for a good time. Your guest list is arguably the most important planning decision you’ll make as it affects the whole vibe of your day. It was clear that Katie and James’ crowd were all invested in their joint adventure and were there to celebrate them, not there out of obligation or with a grumpy attitude.
